Established in 1986 by the Brookers, Glen Afric Country Lodge is situated 20 minutes from Pretoria and 40 minutes from Johannesburg. With good links from Lanseria and OR Tambo International Airports, you can leave the hustle and bustle of daily life and find yourself in front of the stunning views of the surrounding bushveld, the magnificent Magaliesberg Mountains and the nearby Hartbeespoort Dam – it truly is a magical place!
Named after a glen in Scotland called “Glen Affric”, just north of Inverness and which means Glen of spotted trees, the reserve consists of over 750 hectares of bushveld and woodland where wild animals roam free. It also has a number of predators including lion, tiger, leopard and cheetahs. The reserve also has over 300 species of birds.
Glen Afric Country Lodge sits in the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site which comprises a strip of a dozen dolomitic limestone caves containing the fossilised remains of ancient forms of animals, plants and most importantly, hominids. The dolomite, in which the caves formed, started out as coral reefs growing in a warm, shallow sea about 2.3 billion years ago.
