WHY JOIN THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME?

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the care and maintenance of rescued animals, from big cats to elephants. Our programme is designed for individuals with a love for animals, a passion for nature, and a commitment to conservation. You will engage in hands-on tasks that make a tangible difference in protecting wildlife and preserving their natural habitat.

WHERE IS THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME?

We’re based at Glen Afric Farm in South Africa, within the Northwest Province. Within the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. GAVE has been running for many years now and has hosted many volunteers from all corners of the world. 

VOLUNTEER DURATION AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION
  • Duration: Volunteers typically stay between two to four weeks to fully experience the project.
  • Arrival Days: Monday and Friday (Arrival time: 07:00 – 17:00, preferably in the morning)
  • Departure Days: Friday and Sunday
  • Airport: O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg)
ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
  • There are different accommodation options.
  • Three daily meals (vegetarian options available upon request). Sometimes we braai, have take-aways or eat at the Sunday buffet. 
  • On-site restaurant and bar for additional purchases
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

As a volunteer, you may be involved in various tasks, including:

Fixing roads I Game feeding I Removing alien invasive plant species I Animal enrichment I Fixing fences I Elephant walks I Fire breaks I Bush walks I Cutting trees I Game drives I Cleaning predator enclosures and the Elephant Houses I Painting I Cleaning elephant and horse stalls I Feeding predators I Meat Preparation For the Animals

These activities are vital in ensuring the well-being of our animals and maintaining the reserve. While the physical work is not overly demanding, a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?
  • Accommodation (shared rooms) and three meals per day. Airport transfers (O.R. Tambo International Airports. Participation in Glen Afric Volunteer Experience activities

While we’re fixing up our current accommodation facilities, volunteers can enjoy some much needed comfort and rest in our Stable Blocks. There are a few options to choose from. While these upgraded options provided an elevated experience, our normal day rate of R1600.00 remains (excludes transport fees). Stay in our Stable Blocks when you volunteer with us for a minimum of one week.
